If It's not Scottish It's Craaaaaap!

Work has been pretty slow, so I decided to take a little vacation with my good ole pal, Teen. The idiot that I am, I told my client my vacation dates before I planned anything. We thought about going to Amsterdam, but with 2 weeks before my allotted vacation, flights to Europe weren't exactly cooperating. I did end up using my miles for the both of us for a flight to London. I always deemed Scotland to be a pretty relaxing naturally beautiful place, so we decided to go there.

Being the adventurous souls that we are, we rented a car in Edinburgh. We planned to drive around Scotland in 2 and a half days before returning to London and the United States. It was not necessarily well-thought out, but ambitious. Our time in Scotland got off to a rather rough start. This was our little European rental car, the Renault Megane hatchback.

And the baby had BACK!

Approximately 30 seconds after we climbed into our li'l car and drove off from the rental agency, we hit something on the side of the road, promptly smashing the passenger side mirror into the window. After I screamed like a little girl, and we kept on trucking. To be honest, it is a little unnerving and uncomfortable to drive on the other side of the road. It's like throwing a baseball with your left hand. It can be done and the ball does go forward, but no matter how hard you try, it doesn't feel good and you end up looking like a sissy.

We were lucky and the weather held up for the whole week. We even got in a round of golf on the Isle of Skye. I played like ass, but the backdrop was beautiful with the ocean on one side and mountains on the other and the cool ocean breeze blowing my hair. I played like ass, but I did redeem myself with a 15 foot putt from the rough to close out our match. I did the Tiger Woods famous fist pump, but we forgot to capture the Kodak moment.

The trip was good, but perhaps not as relaxing as I would've hoped. I didn't drink quite as much as I would've liked, though Teen and I admirably tried to make up for it by downing a half bottle of scotch on some random pier on the Isle of Skye. For all intensive purposes, there were a little too muchtravelingg (Maryland -> NY -> London - Scotland -> London -> NY -> Maryland) in 6 days, one too many stinky dirty hostels, and about 20 too many loud French kids. Getting back to London was nice though. We stayed at a swanky Marriott near Covent Garden with a nice private bathroom and clean sheets. Stick a fork in me, my hobo travelling days in Europe are over. Next time it's gonna be first class!

Golf on Isle of Skye is quite choice. Do play if you have the chance.
