Duke Lacrosse Rape Case

There's so much to say about this case, and there's so much already been said. But I heard something about a month ago regarding the case that got me all riled up to the point I had to make my opinion known.

A Recap:
A black stripper was hired to perform at a Duke Lacrosse Team party. She alleges at that party 3 white players dragged her into the bathroom and raped her. The victim identified the 3 assailants to be: David Evans, Reade Seligmann, and Collin Finnerty. As the weeks have gone by and more evidence and information has surfaced, it appears that these three individuals didn't commit any rape and the district attorney, Mike Nifong, was quick to charge and indict the players. Read more here.

In my personal opinion, I don't think a rape occurred, but I also think these players (along with their other teammates) are not innocent people in this event. Colin Finnerty was charged and convicted with assault on an individual in DC. A couple of hours after the alleged incident, another player, Ryan McFadyen (not accused), sent an email to other players saying that he planned to "have some strippers over" and made references to "killing the bitches," then cutting off their skin while ejaculating "in [his] Duke-issue spandex." 60 minutes did two stories on this subject. In the second interview, Leslie Stahl talked with the parents of the accused players. There is one quote that burns me up. A portion of the transcript below:

"Last question. If Mr. Nifong walked in the room, right now, what would you like to say to him?" Stahl asks.

"I guess I'd say, with a smile on my face, 'Mister Nifong, you've picked on the wrong families. You've picked on the wrong families that you've indicted; you've picked on the wrong family of the Duke lacrosse team. You've picked on the wrong family of Duke University, and you will pay every day for the rest of your life,'" says Rae Evans.

I don't know about you, but as a minority what I read into Rae Evans' comments are "we are rich white people, and we will use our money and influence to ruin your job and life." This kind of attitude pisses me off to no end. It just shows the superiority complex that many white people still have. These kids all came from wealthy white elitist families. It's not a huge stretch (to me at least) that purposefully or inadvertantly they were taught to disrespect other people.
